Oil Gator Spill Kit 240L Recycling Kitt
This medium sized oil spill kit contains a range of oil absorbents that are suitable for use inside and out. Oil absorbent pads are meltblown and are designed for use in absorbing hydrocarbon based spills, particularly from watercourses including rivers, brooks and streams. Being hydrophobic they repel water and will float making for easy retrieval.
Oil absorbent meltblown pads are also excellent for use in and around the workplace to soak up drips, leaks and spills of hydrocarbon based fluids from machinery and floor ways. They are also ideal for removing oil contaminants that has collected in drains, ponds, puddles, tanks and bunds. The fast acting, powerful absorbents in this kit have a high material strength and liquid retention.
Description
Oil Gator Spill Kit 240L Recycling Kit
OIL GATOR is a cotton fiber containing oil eating microbes and all the necessary nutrients to enhance biodegradation of hydrocarbons. When activated by the addition of moisture, the indigenous bacteria have ideal conditions within which to reproduce and rapidly utilize the available hydrocarbon as a food source.
Apply OIL GATOR to the contaminated soil as evenly as possible. Once the hydrocarbon comes in contact with OIL GATOR it is completely absorbed (up to the saturation level) and cannot be extracted by naturally occurring contact with water. Even when wet, OIL GATORwill actually release water to absorb hydrocarbons. This extraordinary characteristic separates OIL GATOR from all other absorbents.

Contents include:
-
- 240L bin
- Brush
- Shovel
- Sieve
- 6 tubs Oil Gator (20L)
Applications
- Fuel, Oil and Grease Spills. Apply Oil Gator directly to new or old spills in soil. Area will turn light colour and vegetation will resume growth in 4 to 6 weeks.
- Volatile Liquid Spills. Apply Oil Gator directly to spill to suppress VOC’S.
- Land farming. Oil Gator will assist bioremediation of fuels, oils, and greases while providing maximum groundwater protection.
Directions
- Spills in Soil: Till or rake Oil Gator directly into the spill until area is light coloured. Let sit 12hours then thoroughly wet down with water. Keep area moist for 120 days.
- Surface Spills: Completely cover volatile liquid spilled to suppress vapors. Do not sweep until Oil Gator has absorbed liquid.
Fire resistance
- Good. (Physically flame-retardant).
- Incinerable to zero ash
Disposal
- Used sorbents may be disposed of by landfill or incineration, in accordance with local and national regulations, taking into account the classification of the liquid absorbed
Classification of waste
- We would always recommend that you check the latest details on the Government’s website to ensure you control and handle waste correctly
Training
If you are unsure of how to use absorbents, we have high quality 17 minute Spill Response and Pollution Prevention Training Video. Watch this short snippet
This training video will teach you about the 5 sections of the Pollution Prevention Hierarchy, helping you to reduce prosecution risks. It demonstrates:-
-
- Awareness
- Helping the injured
- Stopping the flow
- Clean up
- Containment
The training video contains guidance on:
- How to prevent spills
- How to deal with spills safely if they occur
- The different types of Spill Kits
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The different types of Absorbents
- Deployment of Socks & Booms
This training aid is available from Spill Kits Direct SKU: 504/04001
Material are tested in accordance with:
ISO 10319:2024 (Geosynthetics, wide-width tensile test)
BS 7959-1:2004 (Materials used for the control of liquid spillages determination of sorbency)
- The standard looks at the sorbent materials.
- These are generally available in two basic types.
- Hydrophobic grades (so-called oil sorbents) that pick up oils and other organic liquids but repel water and most aqueous solutions.
- Hydrophilic grades, on the other hand, pick up both oils and organic liquid and most aqueous solutions of chemicals.
- The absorbency is greatly influenced by the liquid viscosity and drainage time.
- We quote minimum absorbencies based on laboratory tests carried out using SAE10W40 motor oil.
- Tests are in line with the British Standard Test Method BS7959-1:2004 (30 second drainage time, at 20C) and maximum absorbencies with no drainage.
